Affordable and high-quality public child care is available to all parents that work in Sweden. Childcare facilities operate normally between the hours of 6.30 to 18.30.
Childcare is designed for children ages 1 to 6 or until they start school. Municipalities have an obligation to provide preschool activities for children whose parents work or study. A child is normally offered a place within 3-4 months of the parents registering their need for a place within the municipality. These facilities provide a stimulating environment with educated staff.
The preschool class is a non-compulsory form of education within the public school system. Municipalities have an obligation to offer children a place in a preschool class from the fall term of the year, the child turns 6 or until the child starts compulsory school.
