30 January – How Does the Social Insurance Agency in Sweden Work?

The purpose of the Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan), is to provide financial security at the various stages of life. However it can be difficult to understand how it works and which benefits you and your family are entitled to if you are new to the country. We have invited representatives from Försäkringskassan who can go through the basics and answer all your questions. Some questions that will be addressed are listed below:

Do I need to register at Försäkringskassan?
What happens if I’m sick and can’t work for a couple of weeks?
Am I insured if I travel to another country?
What benefits can my family receive?

We now have the pleasure of introducing Karin Lammers and Elna Fredriksson from Försäkringskassan. Karin and Elna have worked at the Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan) for 2 respectively 7 years and will be able to explain their role as an authority as well as answering some of your questions.
